Less than six weeks to go - the 35th ASV Reunion in Laos

January 21 is my departure date for Laos and the reunion for the 35th anniversary of the closing of the American School of Vientiane (ASV).

The last day of school was May 20, 1975. In the wee hours of May 21, at the tail end of the "Conflict in SouthEast Asia", student protestors, upset with the US presence in Laos, occupied not only the USAID compound but surrounded the KM-6 housing complex, the home of ASV. Within three days, the American presence in Laos began to draw down.

Thanks to the incredible Lloyd Coleman (class of 1973) who has planned an amazing trip, over 50 intrepid souls (and many virtual followers, I'm sure) will return to Laos in January to revisit the scene of our school years.

This blog will attempt to capture not only my observations and experiences, but those of my fellow travelers.

First stop, Los Angeles! With many of us flying in from all over the US, our group USA will assemble in at LAX, and will leave just after midnight on January 22, on Cathay Pacific Flight 881 for Hong Kong. We'll transfer to DragonAir for Phnom Penh for an overnight in PNH, then we are off to Vientiane!

Follow this blog for more commentary and photos! I'll do my best to share all the sights, activities and emotions of the "Return to Laos 2010!"
